My business idea is for a sustainable, environmentally friendly, alternative building collective (an “Eco Collective”) in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua, and a documentary about the project. There are many of us currently building with new, innovative, environmentally friendly techniques, but we have no way of showing our projects and teaching others how to implement the technology. The business would showcase techniques and products such as retaining walls made from used tires, rammed earth homes, shipping container homes, earth bag homes, gray water storage and management, composting toilets, solar water heaters, and solar ovens to name a few. The Eco Collective will create many new jobs and help stimulate the local economy. The business would offer free training classes to locals who would most benefit from the knowledge with hands on training. Skills and training are essential for a population that on average makes less than 0 a month in salaries. With traditional building materials as expensive as, and sometimes even more than in the USA, most of the people are unable to build adequate homes. The Eco Collective can help teach people how to use adobe and other natural materials to improve living conditions and the overall quality of life.
